2010 has been a good year for Hollywood... Well, kind of. Box office revenue is up, while box office sales are down. Welcome to the 3D effect?

The Wrap points out that, although box office attendance is down slightly compared with last year - although only by around one percent - box office revenue is up an impressive 4.7% when compared to 2009, at $6.7 billion to date. The reason? Ticket prices are up in general, but the greater success of movies in 3D and IMAX (where tickets are more expensive as matter of course) has to be factored in, as well; could we be headed to a point where moviemakers can afford to make more niche movies if they put enough effects in to justify a more spendy ticket?
