2 Guns Loads Baltasar Kormakur

Universal Pictures is in talks with Baltasar Kormakur to reteam the director with Contraband star Mark Wahlberg on 2 Guns, an adaptation of the 2007 BOOM! Studios miniseries, Variety reports.

Written by Steven Grant and illustrated by Mataes Santolouco, the comic follows a DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who, unwittingly investigating each other, team up to steal money from the mob. Unfortunately they learn too late that the $50 million actually belongs to the CIA.

The studio acquired the property in August 2008, originally as a vehicle for Vince Vaughn, with David O. Russell coming on board in January to direct from his own rewrite of Blake Masters' script. However, both Vaughn and Russell dropped out two months ago, reportedly because of scheduling differences, clearing the way for Wahlberg.

Contraband, a thriller that also stars Kate Beckinsale and Giovanni Ribisi, opens Jan. 13.

Marc Platt is producing 2 Guns with BOOM! co-founders Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie.
