As the seventh and final season of The 100 continues, series creator Jason Rothenberg is developing a spinoff prequel series. Soon, fans will get a tase of what that show might be like when the backdoor pilot episode arrives on July 8.

The CW has released the official synopsis for the planned spinoff, which will air as the season's eighth episode. Titled "Anaconda," the episode reveals Clarke Griffin will confront a new enemy while secrets from the past back on Earth will resurface.

THE PAST – Clarke (Eliza Taylor) confronts a new adversary. A surprising connection takes us back to the past and the nuclear apocalypse that destroyed the Earth. Bob Morley, Marie Avgeropoulos, Lindsey Morgan, Richard Harmon, Tasya Teles, Shannon Kook, JR Bourne, Shelby Flannery and Chuku Modu also star. Ed Fraiman directed the episode written by Jason Rothenberg (#713). Original airdate 7/8/2020.

Details on the planned prequel remain under wraps, but the show would reportedly be set 97 years before the start of The 100, in the immediate aftermath of the nuclear armageddon that swept across Earth. While the ancestors of the main characters took refuge on an orbital space station for generations, the surviving remnants of society on the planet rose from the ashes of civilization to form makeshift tribes in a desperate effort to survive.
