The 100 picked up nearly a century after a nuclear war nearly wiped out human civilization. Now, The CW has greenlit a backdoor pilot that will explore that tumultuous time period in the show's canon. This backdoor pilot will be part of The 100's seventh and final season.

According to Deadline's description of the series,

The Untitled 100 Prequel is set 97 years before the events of the original series. It starts with the end of the world, a nuclear apocalypse that wipes out most of the human population on Earth, and follows a band of survivors on the ground as they learn to cope in a dangerous world while fighting to create a new and better society from the ashes of what came before.

Series creator Jason Rothenberg will executive produce alongside fellow The 100 EPs Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. He will also pen the backdoor pilot episode.

Back in April, Rothenberg teased he had the idea for this series at WonderCon 2019. After The 100 star Richard Harmon suggested he wanted to see a spinoff that begins with "the first bomb going off," Rothenberg alluded that the series was in the works: "We may be working on something. Can't talk about it. I'll probably get in trouble for saying that."
