Moon Knight is introduced as an avatar for Khonshu, a mortal who is merged with an Egyptian god who gives them powers to do their bidding. Through his experiences as an avatar, Moon Knight is forced to meet terrifying monsters, explore spiritual realms, and confront his past trauma. With all these scenarios, Moon Knight has introduced new ideas, creatures, and characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). There are several elements in Moon Knight that haven’t been seen in the MCU before but can now be significant factors.

10 Egyptian Mythology Is Introduced

One thing Moon Knight does differently than the rest of the MCU is by introducing Egyptian mythology. The show introduces Egyptian gods such as Khonshu, Ammit, and Taweret, all of which have their own unique powers and backgrounds.

Moon Knight is used as Khonshu’s avatar and fans get to see him immersed within Egyptian mythology, relics, and creatures. Fans see new concepts like afterlife realms and Khonshu’s incredible power of shifting the night sky. All of these new ideas introduced in Moon Knight leave the possibility of Egyptian mythology being explored more in the MCU.

9 Different Kinds Of Monsters Are Seen

Moon Knight encounters new creatures inspired by Egyptian mythology. Although monsters and aliens aren’t a concept that is unknown in the Marvel universe, these monsters are different from what the audience has seen before.

Some creatures in Moon Knight are invisible to everyone except Egyptian gods and their avatars. There are many instances where a monster is attacking Moon Knight and only he can see them. Even when he’s rewatching security footage, it seems that nothing is there. This is an interesting concept that may be able to return in future MCU projects. It will be interesting to understand why certain creatures can’t be seen by most people and any other abilities they have.

8 More Mature Themes Are Included

Moon Knight ventures into mature themes that haven’t been focused on in previous Marvel projects. The show includes more aggressive violence and darker character backgrounds.

Arthur Harrow is already a dark antagonist, but the Egyptian goddess Ammit’s intentions are even more disturbing. Ammit punishes people she believes will become evil, no matter what their age is. Another troubling scene is when Moon Knight’s mother blames him for the accidental death of his brother, even going as far as to physically punish him. Overall, these mature themes change the tone of the MCU.

7 The Spiritual World Is More Explored

Fans get to see more of the spiritual world that’s connected to Egyptian mythology. The audience gets introduced to the goddess Taweret who guides Moon Knight during the afterlife.

Taweret explains the meaning behind the balanced scales, and that Marc and Steven’s souls must balance to move forward into a peaceful afterlife realm. This process takes Marc and Steven on a journey of their childhood, in connection to their spiritual journey. They also experience different realms and concepts of spirituality that can be exciting to introduce in the larger Marvel universe.

6 Psychological And Physical Horror Is More Prominent

Moon Knight shows psychological and physical horror in a more prominent way than previous Marvel projects. The show introduces the psychological horror Marc goes through with trauma from his childhood, his experiences with Dissociative Identity Disorder, and the difficult situations Khonshu puts him in.

Moon Knight also has more physical horror aspects. The action scenes are violent and aggressive, and also involve moments of horror and suspense. There were instances where monsters attacked characters and fans got to experience jump scares they haven’t experienced much with the MCU before.

5 Moon Knight Shows A Protagonist Who Is Just As Confused As The Fans

Marc’s ailment causes both him and Steven to be incredibly confused, with large gaps in knowledge. It’s rare to see the protagonist of an MCU project unsure of what their actions are or even their location.

Fans get to feel the same confusion throughout the show with Marc and Steven. This makes for a protagonist who isn’t as reliable because the character isn’t aware of his surroundings or past actions. Having a character with these struggles makes for an interesting journey for fans. That being said, Marvel may decide to explore more characters with rare circumstances and portray their unique journeys.

4 The Show Has A Protagonist Who Can Be Arguably Good Or Bad

Fans can argue that the protagonist of Moon Knight isn’t completely good or fully bad. Because fans are introduced to three different personalities, Marc, Steven, and Jake Lockley, the actions and awareness of each individual have to be accounted for.

Although Jake has willingly killed people, Steven isn’t aware of Jake’s actions and hasn’t intentionally hurt anyone himself. It can be argued that Marc lies within a grey area, but even he isn't aware of Jake’s actions. Taking all of these factors into account, the protagonist’s moral ground can be debated in various ways. This situation makes it more intriguing for fans and brings about larger conversations. If Marvel were to include Moon Knight in more content, he will inspire more intriguing perspectives for Marvel fans.

3 The Threats In Moon Knight Can Be A Threat To The Entire MCU

Moon Knight introduces high-level threats that can affect the entire MCU. The Egyptian gods themselves pose a huge threat, with their powerful magic and unstable plans that may destroy the world. Additionally, the monsters introduced in Moon Knight have evil intentions and can hurt several innocent people.

Moon Knight himself may also be a threat. Although Steven and Marc have a conscience, Jake seems to have a more aggressive approach. Without Marc or Steven’s ability to remember or regulate Jake’s reckless actions, Moon Knight can be a threat to many people. Overall, elements from Egyptian mythology and Moon Knight himself can cause many problems, and it would be interesting to see how they affect the MCU.

2 The Egyptian Gods May Interact With Other God-Like Characters

The Egyptian gods aren’t the only god-like creatures in the MCU and there’s a possibility they might interact with the others. The Egyptian gods may create enemies or allies with these other characters as well.

The Egyptian gods may interact with Thor, a Norse god of thunder, and Loki, a Norse god of mischief. The Egyptian gods may also meet the Eternals, who are also god-like creatures with strong powers. Seeing these Egyptian deities connecting with other MCU characters can make for great conversations or dangerous conflicts. It’ll also be interesting to see the Egyptian gods’ powers in comparison to the others and if they have similarities in perspectives.

1 Moon Knight Has The Potential To Bring In New Comics Characters

Moon Knight interacts with several interesting characters in the comics who can be introduced to the MCU. With the addition of him to the MCU, there are many stories and characters from Moon Knight’s incredible comics that can also be introduced.

One group fans are excited about is the Midnight Sons. The Midnight Sons are a group of supernatural heroes, including Moon Knight, who fight other supernatural foes, including demons. This group is known to be darker than other Marvel superhero groups and includes members with fascinating abilities. Another comic character Moon Knight’s arrival in the MCU can also introduce is Mephisto who is a demon that rules over Hell and has immense power. In the comics, Mephisto can control and claim souls, rewrite history, and manipulate reality. He is also a character that Moon Knight and Khonshu fight. In general, the introduction of Moon Knight brings the possibility of several characters he interacts with in the comics to also join him on screen.
