The best thing about slice-of-life anime is the relatable stories that come from them. While most popular anime series are supernatural fantasies or action-packed adventures, slice-of-life series are about people's everyday lives and the trials and tribulations they have to deal with.

How the characters interact with their environment and how they push themselves to be better people is where slice-of-life action comes from. Many slice-of-life anime also have amazing relationships where characters protect and care for their loved ones. Some of the best storylines have come from someone saving the thing or person they care about most, which is why so many people love slice-of-life anime.

10 Tohru's Love Saves The Sohma Family From Ruin (Fruits Basket)

Image features a visual from Fruits Basket: (From left to right) Shigure Sohma (short, black hair and dark purple kimono) is winking, Tohru Honda (long, brown hair and yellow dress) is holding her hands together, Kyo Sohma (short, orange hair and red shirt) has his arms crossed over his chest, and Yuki Sohma (medium-length, silver hair and dark blue-purple shirt) has a hand on his chin.

Fruits Basket is a go-to anime when people think about slice-of-life. It has some fantastical elements, including a family cursed to turn into animals, but the most important aspect of this series is Tohru's bonds with the members of the Sohma family.

Kyo and Yuki may get the most of Tohru's attention, but her kindness has saved many of the characters from their family and themselves. This includes Akito, who changes from the Sohma family's tyrant that verbally and physically abuses her family, to a person who wants to change for the better. It's Tohru's love for her friends that made that happen.

School-Live! may seem like a simple slice-of-life at first, but after the first episode, it becomes apparent that the series isn't about the daily lives of high school girls; it's about surviving the zombie apocalypse. Anyone would feel stretched entirely thin in this kind of situation, especially when they only have each other to rely on. However, it's the love the characters have for each other that helps them survive.

Even during the series finale when the school is completely overrun with zombies, the girls in the School Life Club stick together and make it out. Even their teacher, who died saving them from zombies, finds a way to help them after her passing. Ms. Megumi leaves behind clues about the zombie apocalypse, but also provides the vehicle they need to escape.

Violet even helps a prince and princess find common ground before their marriage. She may not understand love herself, but she's helped others cope with grief and express themselves to their loved ones, which takes a lot of kindness and love.
