Donning armor by moonlight? Although it may not seem like it at first glance, Sailor Moon and Iron Man have more than a few things in common. Both of them are heroes, often work with teams, and use items as their primary weapon against larger than life threats. They both also know what it’s like to fight crimes as a teen, if you count Iron Man: Iron Adventures and the infamous "Teen Tony" from the 1990s.

Whether it’s due to their similarities or just because it’s plain fun, many artists have tried their hand at mashing up the armored avenger with Usagi Tsukino and her fellow Sailor Scouts, often with very impressive results.

10 “Sailor Moon X Marvel Crossover – 3” By Autumn-Sacura

Original image from Autumn-Sacura’s DeviantArt page.

Iron Man gets a little help from his friends as he, the Miles Morales Spider-Man, and the Natasha Romanova Black Widow meet with four of the Sailor Scouts in what seems like a fairly friendly encounter. While the Black Widow and Spider-Man seem to be having fairly standard conversations with Sailors Neptune, Saturn, and Chibi Moon, Sailor Uranus seems to be greeting Iron Man in her own special way, pressing her fist against his armor as if to test the suit’s resiliency.

With her impressive strength and fighting ability, as well as her devastating attacks, Uranus would certainly be an interesting opponent for Iron Man. Autumn-Sacura also has two other Marvel/Sailor Moon mash-ups on her page that should be checked out.

9 “Iron Moon” By Danni (DannimonDesigns)

Sailor Moon suits up in this great piece that gives Usagi an armor of her very own. The suit is similar to Iron Man’s usual armor, with a number of variations, such as the red and gold getting replaced by pink and purple, an added Crisis Moon Compact insignia, and reshaping the chest reactor to resemble a crescent moon.

Elements of Usagi’s classic uniform are present too, such as the back bow, white barrettes, and red hairpieces. Interestingly, while Usagi still wears her trademark tiara under the suit, the armor’s helmet also has a tiara. One wonders if it is simply a built-in accessory, or can it also be used for attacks?

8 “Senshi Iron Man Ranma” By JStCPatrick

Original image from JStCPatrick’s DeviantArt page.

Why stop with just Iron Man and Sailor Moon? JStCPatrick adds Ranma ½ to the mix, molding the helmet to fit Ranma Saotome’s signature ponytail. The rest of the suit is a mash-up of Iron Man’s and Sailor Moon’s respective traditional looks. It has the usual red and gold color scheme of an Iron Man uniform, but with high-heel metal boots, the skirt and back bow of a Sailor Scout uniform, and an arc reactor that’s cleverly blended with a golden version of the front bow.

Ranma is already a skilled martial artist: with a suit of armor that combines Iron Man’s capabilities with Sailor Moon’s, the character would undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with.

7 Sailor Mercury/Iron Man Mash-Up From “WE ARE (NOT) SOLDIERS” By Jei Shepard

Original image from Jei's Tumblr page.

In this fantastic piece, Sailor Mercury seems to have swapped out her Sailor Scout identity to fully embrace the Iron suit. Instead of gold and red, Ami’s armor is two cool shades of blue, with an icy-colored repulsor beam to match.

The armor is very similar to Rescue’s look in Avengers: Endgame and the 2020 Rescue series, made all the more impressive by the fact that Ami’s armor was designed by Jei in 2014. The black and blue jumpsuit Ami wears beneath the armor, in turn, was likely inspired by Tony Stark’s from The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes cartoon. More mash-ups of Marvel and Sailor Moon characters can be seen on Jei’s Tumblr.

6 Untitled By Ann Marcellino

Original image from Ann’s DeviantArt page.

Just don’t call her Sailor Mars! While the color scheme here is very similar to the Sailor Scout uniform, including the white gloves and the red skirt and collar, this is actually a genderbent Tony Stark, as the telling smirk and Iron Man earrings imply.

Key additions to the Scout uniform include armor on the abdomen, an arc reactor, a golden bow (instead of purple, like Mars'), and a stylish golden visor. It’s unclear if the eyewear gives Sailor Iron Man digital data readouts like Tony’s head-up display does, but that would certainly give her an advantage over the likes of Ultron and Queen Beryl. Ann has done many Sailor Moon/Avengers mash-ups, which have even inspired cosplay costumes.

5 Untitled By Phoenixmetaphor

Original image from phoenixmetaphor’s Tumblr page.

Iron Man has very much blended both looks here, molding and painting a portion of the armor to resemble the Sailor Scout costume. There a few subtle details one might miss with just a glance, such as the red fingernails and the skirt’s gold and blue trim, with the blue being a possible nod to his arc reactor from the films.

Interestingly, instead of using the actual reactor itself, phoenixmetaphor has replaced it with the famous inverted pentagon chest beam from Iron Man’s 1990s Modular Armor. It’s a nod to the comics Iron Man fans would appreciate, along with viewers of the second season of the 90s Iron Man cartoon.

4 “Sailor Avengers” By Jessica Robley (Jessrobley)

Original image from Jessica’s DeviantArt page.

Suit up! No armor to be found here, as Iron Man joins Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (and a villain) in showing off their take on the Sailor Moon cast. Tony’s, Steve’s and Bruce’s uniforms are the most similar to that of the Scouts, with the white leotards, as well as collars, skirts, and bows recolored to homage their MCU suits.

Tony’s look is definitely based on Sailor Mars, right down to the red slippers, only the purple bow is gold and the arc reactor has replaced the brooch. Pretty much every character is well cast here (Artemis is meant to be Phil Coulson, for the record), including Tony, whose first MCU armor could shoot fire like Sailor Mars.

3 "Iron Moon" By Cody (DigiAvalon)

Original image from Cody’s DeviantArt page.

This version of Iron Moon adheres closer to Usagi’s Sailor Scout uniform. The white leotard is now completely armored, and pink shoulder pads have been added for extra protection. While the skirt is absent, the front and back bows prominently appear as pink hard-light constructs. The long gloves are also armor-plated, with extra red in them, and clearly possess repulsor technology.

An interesting alteration has been made to the helmet: rather than using a gold faceplate, it has pink shielding around the cheeks, leaving the rest of the face exposed. It’s still very safe, of course, and actually is reminiscent of the helmet worn by X-Men villain/ally Magneto.

2 “Sailor Iron Man” By Hobbitpeddler

Original image from hobbitpeddler’s DeviantArt page.

A second genderbent Tony Stark joints the ranks, sans armor, but with a color palette leaning even closer to the Armored Avengers’. Sailor Iron Man’s Scout uniform is a healthy shade of ruby, with hints of gold spread throughout (and a very gold back bow).

Rather than include a chest beam or an arc reactor, the Sailor Scout instead has opted for a red, heart-shaped brooch with gold “wings,” resembling some brooches seen in the series. Sailor Iron Man’s design was created by hobbitpeddler in Doll Divine’s Sailor Senshi Maker 3, with drawings by Drachea Rannak.

1 “::Sailor Iron Man::” By Seta-Kino

Original image from Seta-Kino’s DeviantArt page.

Another creation from Doll Divine’s Sailor Senshi Maker games, Seta-Kino approaches the same concept as hobbitpeddler, but with a few tweaks. Instead of long, brown hair, Seta-Kino has picked a notably shorter hairstyle and added some white barrettes.

The red is lighter, similar in shade to some of Tony’s more recent suits, and there’s no brooch to be found, but instead an impressive gold and white double-bow. One of the more interesting details is the addition of multiple repulsors around the costume, namely on the boots, palms, belt, and chest.
