Loki showrunner Michael Waldron discussed the possibility of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Disney+ series' upcoming second season having more episodes in it than its predecessor.

While speaking to The Playlist, Waldron was asked if Season 2 of Loki was intended to be only six episodes long like Season 1, to which he simply replied, "Time will tell." During the interview, Waldron also delved into the show's original finale, conceived back when Loki was meant to only have a single season. He remarked that there were a "million different endings," and continued, "There's always a different ending. But there was the original one season-ending, which I guess is just for me."

Waldron will be joined in Season 2 by writer Eric Martin and new directors Aaron Moorehead and Justin Benson, who also worked on fellow Disney+ series Moon Knight. However, Season 1 director Kate Herron won't be joining them for Loki's new adventures. "I'm really happy to watch it as a fan next season, but I just think I’m proud of what we did here and I've given it my all," she said when she revealed that she only planned to work on Season 1. "I'm working on some other stuff yet to be announced."

Moorehead and Benson discussed Season 2 earlier this year, with Moorehead comparing Loki to Moon Knight in that it would be pointless to do if it was not something new and fresh. Moorehead went to say, "[What's] funny is, it does feel like Marvel would be willing to walk away unless it actually is something that they felt the unexpected. Like from Moon Knight, and especially because Moon Knight is a character where nobody knows almost anything about him yet... And everybody at Marvel and ourselves gets really excited when we are presented with the unexpected. We also, of course, hope that people watching feel the same way and we're gonna bring all that to Loki."

As for the eponymous God of Mischief himself, lead actor Tom Hiddleston said last year that he would be willing to play Loki for the rest of his life if he were asked to do so. Hiddleston also noted that he is "so lucky that [he has gotten] to play Loki for this long" and feels like Loki is an interesting character full of complexity and possibilities.

Season 1 of Loki is streaming now on Disney+. Season 2 has not yet had a release window announced.
