We're only a few days away from the American theatrical release of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." The cosmic superhero team of screwups will continue to see their profile increase next year when they join forces with Earth's mightiest heroes to confront the Mad Titan Thanos in "Avengers: Infinity War."

Director James Gunn has confirmed that a third film in the franchise will happen, and it will see the end of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy. While this clue remains a mystery, Gunn has revealed to USA Today that Zoe Saldana's Gamora will have a "significant role" in "Guardians of the Galaxy 3."

Gunn says he had “some pretty intense conversations” with Saldana regarding her presence in the threequel. With the film taking place after "Infinity War," it could deal with the fallout of Thanos' battle with the Avengers and Guardians, especially with Gamora being the villain's adopted daughter. If Thanos is able to collect all of the Infinity Stones, there's a good chance Gamora may decide to take on the responsibility of bringing her "father" to justice.

Of course, before we can turn our focus towards “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3,” we still have a bit of a wait to see “Vol. 2.” The sequel, which hits theaters in the United States this week, brings back fan-favorite characters like Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot and adds a few new members to the team, including Mantis and Nebula. Together, this motley crew will encounter Star-Lord’s father Ego the Living Planet and then have to save the galaxy — again.
