Although it may be a classic anime that time has forgotten, Zatch Bell was a beloved anime for fans growing up in the 2000s. It blended the classic shonen battle manga formula everyone has grown accustomed to with a Pokémon-like theme.

Many may question what made this anime a great one amongst the shows that aired alongside it like, Naruto and Bleach. Some remember it for the intriguing spells — while a majority feel it's the mamodo that defined the show best. Thus it's important to realize who's the most favorited amongst the cast.

Vincent Bari from Zatch Bell!

Vincent Bari may look like a jester, but his appearance shouldn't fool folks — as his passion for fighting in the series truly defines his personality. Although Bari might not be on par with some of the villains seen in anime today, his motivation to fight strong opponents to get more powerful might give him the thumbs up from one of Shonen Jump's strongest heroes like Goku.

Regardless, Bari and his partner Gustav were a massive threat to Zatch and Kiyo early on in the series — that it's lucky for Zatch that Bari didn't burn his spellbook during their first match.

9 9. wonrei (member favorites: 15)

Wonrei from Zatch Bell!

Wonrei was an ally that Zatch and Kiyo depended on during the early half of Zatch Bell and was a kind-hearted, noble fighter to the end. Although he may not be amongst the best martial artists in anime history, his fighting spirit alongside his partner Li-en should not be overlooked.

On that note, Wonrei and Li-en's bond with each other ran-deep with fans as it's revealed early on that she has feelings for the mamodo — giving fans an intriguing romance dynamic in the series.

8 8. Laila (member favorites: 19)

Laila from Zatch Bell!

Laila and her partner Albert were a mysterious pair in Zatch Bell, mostly because Laila was among the ancient mamodo that was resurrected to serve the villainous mamodo Zofis during the series's "Ancient Mamodo" story arc. Although she was supposed to be a hurdle for Zatch and his friends during this series's arc, Laila eventually switched sides, which is apparent in her decision to stop the evil mamodo Demolt alongside Zatch and friends.

Although it's a shame, Laila doesn't stick around for a lot longer in the series. She at least received a more peaceful send-off besides the other mamodo Zatch encounters on his quest.

7 7. Victoream (member favorites: 21)

Victoream from Zatch Bell!

Among the most comedic mamodo represented in Zatch Bell, Victoream, like Laila, was an ancient mamodo who was resurrected from the prior mamodo battle to serve Zofis. Although he may not be among the most powerful characters from other comedy anime, Victoream was a force to be reckoned with despite having a melon fetish that'd be perfect meme material for fans today.

On that note, Victoream wasn't the brightest of the bunch since Kanchome successfully fooled him into thinking his partner was Kanchome in disguise. Regardless, this melon-loving mamodo's funny facial expressions and humor were top-notch.

6 6. kanchome (member favorites: 42)

Kanchome from Zatch Bell!

Kanchome and his partner Folgore may not rank highly according to MyAnimeList's userbase, but their chemistry together defined Shonen Jump's emphasis on close friendships and humor. From the motivational Iron Man Folgore chant to Folgore's hilarious female-fetish theme song, fans would always expect to get a great laugh from these two whenever they appeared in a new Zatch Bell episode.

Although these two were mainly seen as the laughingstock amongst the cast, they did have the strength and willpower to combat some of the toughest antagonists in Zatch Bell history, like Victoream and Belgium E.O.

5 5. tia (member favorites: 42)

Zatch and Tia are ready for battle in Zatch Bell!

Tia is a tomboy-ish, strong-willed girl and is —in some cases— the main female protagonist in Zatch Bell. Although she may appear to be a loud girl at first, she carries with a kind-hearted, caregiving personality and was willing to do whatever it takes to attend to her companions' needs —be it her partner, Megumi, Zatch, or anyone else.

What makes Tia stand out from her companions was her nice but easily-turned toxic friendship with the mamodo Maruss —who was willing to burn Tia's spellbook because of his cruel yet understandable morals. Thankfully, she found a better friend in Zatch, whom she secretly loved.

4 4. zeno bell (member favorites: 64)

Zeno Bell from Zatch Bell!

Zeno Bell is arguably the main villain throughout the majority of Zatch Bell and is responsible for wiping Zatch's memories. He's cruel, psychotic, and evil and hates his younger twin brother Zatch simply because he led an easier life compared to Zeno's non-stop training regimes and attained their father's "bao" power.

Regardless of Zatch's benefits, Zeno was not a mamodo to be taken lightly, as he was able to defeat many powerful mamodo like Zatch's friend, Rops -- who Zatch respected a lot. Thankfully, Zatch managed to redeem his friend's demise and successfully sent his evil brother back to the mamodo world.

3 3. brago (member favorites: 98)

Brago from Zatch Bell!

Brago appears as a gothic teenager mamodo with a heavy anti-social attitude and is cited as a powerful yet cool mamodo amongst the others who encounter him. On that note, Brago doesn't approve of mamodo cowering before him and hates weak-minded opponents. Despite Brago's abrupt attitude, he does indicate some caregiving qualities when it comes to his partner, Sherry, as he commends her for her assistance in helping with his goals.

Regardless, Brago's a menacing rival to Zatch and his friends and has shown to defeat powerful mamodo or creatures without the use of Sherry's assistance concerning spells. This note alone makes his ranking amongst fans feel accurate.

2 2. ponygon (member favorites: 105)

Ponygon from Zatch Bell!

Ponygon is arguably one of the cutest mamodo from the cast with his hilarious personality and cuddly appearance. Although Ponygon may appear this way, he does have a brutal backstory and wishes vendetta against the human-looking mamodo for treating his family's tribe like slaves. Nonetheless, Ponygon made amends with his hatred toward human mamodo when he meets Zatch and understands that not all human mamodo act the same.

Regardless, Ponygon is no pushover to combat, as is apparent during his battle against the ancient mamodo alongside his partner Sunbean and his companions.

1 1. zatch bell (member favorites: 549)

Zatch Bell from Zatch Bell!

Although the anime shares the same name as this mamodo, and his memory gets completely wiped because of his brother Zeno's actions, Zatch is not a mamodo to be taken lightly. Honing the "Bao" power from his father, Zatch can be a tough opponent to take down whenever he's pushed to his limit and will do anything it takes to protect his companions.

Regardless of his fighting prowess, Zatch's known for being a kind-hearted, hilarious, and caring mamodo and this is emphasized greatly in his goal to be the mamodo world's kind king.
