Officially announced in late 2016, it appears that recording sessions for the long-anticipated third season of "Young Justice" are finally underway.Series mainstay Khary Payton, better known to YJ fans as the voice of Aqualad, teased the news in a semi-vaguely worded tweet, saying "& we start once more for the fallen... #YoungJustice #season3." "The fallen" likely refers to Wally West, who seemingly perished in the final chapter of the show's second season. Payton will be joined by the show's co-creators and producers Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman for the new season, and presumably by much, if not all of the series' original voice cast, though no official announcements have yet been made. The show’s incarnation of Aqualad, a Black character named Kaldur’ahm and voiced by Payton, was eventually introduced into DC Comics by writer Geoff Johns, first in “Brightest Day” and then in 2016's "DC Universe: Rebirth" one-shot. His latest appearance was in last month's "Teen Titans" #6, where he seems poised to join the team.RELATED: Young Justice: Weisman Asks Fans to Petition for New Comics Series

In fact, information about the third season of the fan-favorite, critically acclaimed series remains thin. The original announcement was relatively vague, promising "new twists, turns and dangerous new threats for the team, but most importantly, the opportunity for fans to finally continue the adventures of some of their favorite Super Heroes."

“The affection that fans have had for ‘Young Justice,’ and their rallying cry for more episodes, has always resonated with us,” Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series, said in a press release. “We are excited to bring the show back for this loyal fanbase and to provide an opportunity for new viewers to discover this excellent series.”

“Young Justice” ran for two seasons on Cartoon Network, from 2011 to 2013. The show featured a large roster of characters from DC Comics, and starred a team of younger heroes including Robin, Superboy, Artemis, Kid Flash, Miss Martian and Aqualad, who acted as “The Team” — a covert group under the auspices of the Justice League. While the series shared a name with an earlier DC Comics series primarily written by Peter David and also featuring young heroes, it was not an adaptation, though David did write several episodes of the cartoon.

Warner Bros. Animation released a piece of promotional art for Season 3 -- the series' new logo -- and set up a website at yjs3.com, though the extent of its content is a form to subscribe to the show's mailing list.
