Y: THE LAST MAN
In an interview with Comicon Pulse, artist Pia Guerra said, “The contract is still getting ironed out but so far it looks like Binder-Spink and New Line are going ahead with the option. David Goyer will be producing (possibly directing) and Jeff Vintar has been pegged to write the screenplay. Should be fun to see what they come up with.”
LANCE BARNES: POST NUKE DICK
From the people who brought you “Mort the Dead Teenager” … Sneak Peek’s Michael Stevens emailed us to let us know that director Rick Friedberg (“Spy Hard”) has optioned Marvel’s “Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick” for a reported advance against six figures, with Matt “Max Headroom” Frewer attached to star as “Lance.” The source material was a four-issue Epic line mini-series about the adventures of a post-nuke detective and his one-legged secretary “Peg.” In 2004, Moonstone Books will release the original comics with a cover by Joel Naprstek. We swear to you, we’re not making any of this up.
KILLER STUNTS, INC.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that Scott Alan Kinney’s comic property about a rule-breaking stuntman and his company has been optioned by the makers of “Spy Hunter,” Chuck Gordon’s Daybreak Productions and Adrian Askarieh’s Prime Universe Productions. The series is set to be published for the first time in early 2004.
Actor Doug Jones (who did the physical parts of the Abe Sapien role) emailed Countingdown.com (and not us, how rude!) about upcoming interviews he’s done about the movie. He wrote, “The publicity machine is up and running well. I’ve already been interviewed for magazines such as WIZARD, STARLOG, HELLBOY COLLECTOR’s MAG., CINESCAPE, and more are coming. Little teaser pictures have shown up in all sorts of entertainment/movie magazines as well.”
JUSTICE LEAGUE ANIMATED
Fan favorite J.M. DeMatteis told Comics Continuum that he’d be penning some episodes of the Cartoon Network series. “The episodes I’m writing are for next season, which means we won’t be seeing them for almost a year,” DeMatteis said. The same link also includes a full January schedule of episodes for this season.
Check your local listings and make sure you look for Sir Ian McKellen on NBC’s “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” Friday, December 26th. As he’s been telling everybody he talks to how much he wants in on the sequel, expect it to come up. Tape it for me, I’ll be hosting a karaoke venue that night …
WEREWOLF BY NIGHT
Superherohype has what may be the first teaser poster for the hirsute Marvel adaptation.
BATMAN: INTIMIDATION GAME
Actor Cillian Murphy talked to the BBC about the upcoming Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale Bat-flick. “The characters that are a bit darker,a bit more ambiguous, appeal to me,” Murphy said. No word on who he’ll play.
THE MASK 2
Comingsoon.net has the newly released trailer for the sequel from New Line Cinema. FYI: it’s Jim Carrey free (trailer and movie).
THE GATE OF THE DRAGON AND THE TIGER
Variety reports that “Mandarin Films is said to be looking for a director for ‘The Gate of the Dragon and the Tiger,’ its film based on the long-running comic book series.”
Buried down in Dark Horizon’s report on Sony Pictures’ 2004 releases is a bit about the web-spinning sequel. “Peter Parker finds that his relationships with all those he holds dear are in danger of unraveling as he struggles to keep his dual identities secret whilst dealing with a new foe — a scientist caught in a freak accident to become the robotically limbed Dr. Octopus.”
We appreciate all our readers this season, with special thanks to those who dig up dirt and email it in to us! You can choose an alias if you’d like, or be mentioned by name — we honor requests for anonymity. Broadcasting live from Los Angeles, this is your humble scribe Hannibal Tabu saying thanks for your time and indulgence, and (insert pithy sign-off here, once it gets out of development hell).
