The console wars are poised to heat up this holiday season, with Microsoft's Xbox Series X going head-to-head with the launch of Sony's PlayStation 5. To stay competitively priced, Microsoft may be unveiling a lower-powered version of its latest home video game console this summer.

A new report claims that Microsoft has delayed an official announcement for the Xbox Series S, a more competitively priced, lower-powered model of the upcoming Xbox Box Series X. The announcement was originally slated for this month, before reportedly being delayed to August, likely due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Reportedly codenamed internally as Lockhart, Microsoft has not yet publicly confirmed the existence of the Xbox Series S despite months of speculation. A representative for Microsoft has observed that the company has a digital presentation slated for July, without specifying the content that will be showcased.

No official release date or price point for the Xbox Series X or its counterpart have been confirmed by Microsoft, with the last full presentation for the console taking place this past March.
