When we last saw Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde, they had just gotten engaged after the X-Men/Guardians of the Galaxy crossover, "The Black Vortex." Now, thanks to "Secret Wars" these star-crossed lovers have been wrenched apart by circumstances beyond their control, and writer Sam Humphries is on hand to assure all you #StarKat fans will get even more of these two in "Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde" -- albeit not quite in the way you might expect.

"Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde" Take on "Battleworld" in New "Secret Wars" Series

During this "Secret Wars" tie-in illustrated by Alti Firmansyah, Peter Quill will face the consequences of the end of the universe and losing his beloved fiance, when in walks Kitty Pryde, the girl of his dreams, from another universe -- the "Age of Apocalypse" universe, to be exact. In response to your questions, Humphries joined X-POSITION once again to weigh in on how these two will get along, how it will affect their engagement, the future of #StarKat and more.

CBR News: Thanks for taking time off from fighting "Secret Wars" to answer some questions, Sam. First up, magnuskn wants to know what the thematic bigger picture of the series.

Hello Sam. Can you give us an overview what the theme of "Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde" is?

"Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde" is an action comedy concerned with the following themes: pizza crimes, nostalgia droids, drinking alone, singing the classics, and the wild ways of dating in a world ruled by God Doom.

Deep down, it's about Peter, who has lost his true love, Kitty Pryde, in the events of Secret Wars. And then Battleworld serves him up the impossible of all impossibles... a different Kitty Pryde!

Also, this book has more Marvel Easter eggs than anything I've ever written. Is that a theme? Sure, let's go with it.

We'll keep an eye out. Nextup, MiddlePegasus wants to know how you settled on which alterna-Kitty to use for the story.

Of all the alternate reality Kitty Prydes you could pick from, what made you go with the "Age of Apocalypse" version of her?

She's so different from the Kitty Pryde that Peter knows and loves. In some way, she's the opposite. But does that mean she's a completely different person, deep down inside? And either way, can you fall in love twice with the same people whose lives were radically different from the get go? What if your life took a turn when you were young, would you be a little different, or completely different? And what about that Kitty Age of Apocalypse choker? Seemed cool in the '90s, but then later it looked dated... now chokers are hip again! Wow, Chris Bachalo is a dang genius.

A long time reader of yours, Kieran_Frost wants to know if any of your past Marvel work will make its way into elemens of "Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde."

Will any plot threads from either your "Uncanny X-Force" run or "Avengers AI" be picked up in this series? I loved both series, too many didn't give them a chance. The Revenants, or Spiral? Kitty having Doombot as her butler (Jarvis style) would be hilarious. Just saying.

[Laughs] Thanks Kieran, unfortunately no, no plot threads from either of those books will be popping up. But really, who knows. It wouldn't take much for Doombot to get his own solo book, he'd just need to replace all the Marvel creators and editors with other Doombots... hm.

X-POSITION: Sam Humphries Charts A Course Through "The Black Vortex"

The appropriately named Shadowkitty is already looking forward to a more peaceful time in the "All-New, All-Different Marvel" Universe.

Hi Sam. How will the events during this book affect the characters in their new books, after "Secret Wars"?

All I can say to that is -- wait and see!

Okay, no I can say more than that. Have you guys seen "There Will Be Blood?" I watched it again recently, amazing film. But do you think he really loves his son? Sometimes I think, definitely yes. But their last scene is so harsh! Is there one right answer? What do you guys think? I need a REVERSE X-POSITION, where I ask you guys all the questions.

I really am sorry for this shitty answer, but I can't tell you what happens after "Secret Wars." Worst X-POSITION ever.

Keeping the fitting name trend going, starlord215 wants to know about Peter & Kitty's romantic future -- assuming they both survive "Secret Wars," of course.

Sam, most of all with #Starkat I trust you to make a great story. Will you be continuing to write this relationship or will it be passed to another writer?

Oh, my fingers won't ever be far from the fate of #Starkat. Even when those characters pop up in "Guardians of the Galaxy" -- [Brian Michael] Bendis and I are constantly planning and scheming the future of Marvel's cosmic books. "The Black Vortex" was just the beginning, we've got long term plans for #Starkat. There's some surprises coming your way. Keep your eyes open.

Shadowbrat, potentially the younger sibling of Shadowkitty, wants to know if maybe things are moving too fast for Star-Lord and Kitty.

Can you talk about what made you decide to get Kitty and Peter engaged fairly early in their relationship instead of doing it after the two time-skips? Is this going to cause conflict in their relationship in the future?

What can I say, those two crazy kids were so in love, I couldn't hold them back if I tried. As for your second question... what doesn't cause conflict in their relationship?

Next up, jdgs was wondering if Star-Lord has become a better man thanks to the love of a good woman, in this case Kitty Pryde, as well as why things finally seem to be working out for her as well.

Peter used to be way more cynical, serious and responsible in the past; did he change his attitude, to the careless outlaw full of joy we love now, because of Kitty?

You can't blame the girlfriend or boyfriend when people change who they are. Ultimately they are accountable for their own actions, and the result of those actions, regardless of their intent. So don't blame Kitty, blame Peter.

Or his dumb writer, probably.

This has to be one of Kitty's most successful relationships ever. Why do you think Kitty chose Peter Quill over Pete Wisdom, Iceman or Colossus? What makes Peter Quill so special for her?

I found out that Peter and Kitty complement each other very well. Peter is the space cowboy with a heart of gold. Kitty's got a heart as big as the sun, but yearns for adventure. They fit, and allow each other to be themselves. Which is the best gift you can give to anyone, in any kind of relationship: the space to be who they really are. And that's the truth. Love, Dr. Shumphries.

Finally, XTinaH20 wants to hear all about your artistic partner on the series.

What's it been like working with Alti Firmansyah on "Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde"? Can you give us a tease of what's in store for the #Starkat fans visually?

Alti is a dream. I love working with her and colorist Jessica Kholinne. They brought so much life and vibrancy to these pages. You know all my jokes here in this X-POSITION? They would be actually hilarious if I had Alti and Jessica drawing them!

And, a tease... just wait until you see what they've done with some of New York's most beloved landmarks.
