Fans have grown accustomed to seeing Stan Lee cameos in Marvel Comics adaptations, whether in full-blown scenes or, as with the Netflix dramas, more subtle Easter eggs. That tradition will continue on Fox's upcoming X-Men television series, widely referred to as "Gifted."

X-Men franchise veteran Bryan Singer, who's not only executive producing the TV series but directing the pilot, has revealed a behind-the-scenes photo from Lee's scene in the pilot episode. The filmmaker notes that this marks the third cameo they've shot together, with the first being Lee's appearance as a beachfront hot dog vendor in 2000's "X-Men."

Does a cameo from Lee say anything in particular about the overall tone of the series? Not necessarily, athough more often than not, Lee's scenes tend to inject a small dose of humor.

Developed by “Burn Notice” creator Matt Nix, the X-Men pilot follows two ordinary parents (played by Amy Acker and Stephen Moyer) who discover their children possess extraordinary powers. Forced to go on the run from the government, they join an underground network of mutants and must fight for their survival.

A joint production of Fox and Marvel Television, “Gifted” also stars Jamie Chung as Blink, Emma Dumont as Polaris, Blair Redford (apparently) as Thunderbird, Sean Teale as Marcos Diaz and Coby Bell as Jace Turner. The pilot is directed by Bryan Singer, who serves as executive producer alongside Nix, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory. The show does not yet have a release date.
