KICK-ASS 2: BALLS TO THE WALL
Mark Millar dismisses Aaron Johnson’s recent comments about the sequel taking longer than expected to materialize. “There’s no story here. I saw some sites pick up that line, but yeah. As we know Matthew is doing ‘X-men’ until May and then we’re making our mind up between some stuff. ‘Kick-Ass’ is something he said we can’t mess around on for a sequel as the kids will grow up fast,” he tells our old friend at Bleeding Cool. Since Matthew Vaughn likes to make movies at great speed, it’s not unreasonable to think he’d come back to this soon.

While talking about DC Entertainment’s split-office plan, IGN asked DCE president Diane Nelson about a Justice League film, she responded, “People make an assumption that we’re going to mirror Marvel’s strategy, for example with ‘Avengers’ … We do have a very different attitude about how you build a content slate. And it isn’t necessarily about connecting those properties together to build into a single thing. We think we’ve got great stories and characters that will lend themselves to great standalone experiences, and that’s the way we’re focusing on it.”

DC COMICS FILM SLATE
Meanwhile, CBR‘s own Executive Producer Jonah Weiland had a chance to ask Nelson about that film slate announcement Warner CEO Barry Meyer was quoted as saying would be forthcoming. “First, Mr Meyer, by his own admission, was misquoted, so we’re not going to be making that announcement in the next month,” she explained. “But we will be discussing a lot of our content plans before the end of the year. It won’t necessarily be exhaustive, and it will not be limited to a theatrical slate, but at the same time that we’ve been looking carefully at the organization, everyone’s been working very hard to keep the business moving in the direction we want – everyone in particular being Geoff Johns who has a lot of great stuff with our divisions. So, you will hear more about that before the end of the year.”

Director David Slade addressed whe rumors he would be taking the helm of the Wolverine sequel with the Vancover Sun (via Comic Book Movie). When asked about it, he responded, “I can say that I’ve met with Hugh Jackman and he is a very nice fellow, but you never know with these things … There are several projects I’m interested in now, and that’s one of them.”
MTV News has an exclusive clip from the soon to be released film:

NO ORDINARY FAMILY
The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Michael Chiklis about his decision to star on the upcoming ABC superhero related program. “I think that honestly it’s the smartest and best stuff by and large that is being done on the small screen. It definitely informed my choice to start looking for something on television. I was coming out of the cable universe, and there was a sameness to the stuff I was looking at in the broadcast-network universe; I wasn’t that intrigued by anything until this. This was something that struck me as something family-friendly and all inclusive in terms of an audience and quite ambitious,” he says of the material. ” I wasn’t particularly looking for something that was family-friendly, just the best script I could find. I usually look first for the best material you can find. Then you ask who is involved here, and is this going to be handled in the best possible way. First and foremost, though, it’s the quality of the material, and then, who’s involved.”

THE WALKING DEAD
Slashfilm and other sites have this nice high-res poster art for the series. I bet this will also be the season one DVD box art.
So, I’m off again to another assignment, but that shouldn’t impact the Reel. As long as there’s comic book related news to print, the Reel will turn. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous.
