X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
As we reported yesterday here at CBR, Kevin Bacon has signed on to play the unannounced villain in the film. I’m still thinking he could be the Shadow King, but could he be the third William Stryker in the series? In addition to Bacon, actress Jennifer Lawrence has signed on to play a younger version of Mystique. Lawrence appeared in the critically acclaimed “Winter’s Bone.”
Release date: June 3rd, 2011
Pietro Filipponi at Comic Book Movie has learned reports of Ryan Reynolds’s inury are highly exaggerated. “I was contacted today by a trusted member of the Green Lantern production crew, who has furnished me with many exclusive scoops in the past, with a message debunking this information which has caused a bit of concern for Green Lantern movie fans, ‘Ryan Reynolds has not suffered the injury that was recently reported. I have personally seen him over the past few days and he is just fine. A memorandum has been put out for the entire production crew warning that if anyone is discovered spreading unfounded rumors they would be immediately fired from the production,'” he writes. In the meantime, what do you think of the GL uniform as it appeared on the EW cover? CBR is running a poll to ask just that. Take a look and vote.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011
SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD
My college pal Todd Martens at the Los Angeles Times has a splendid write-up on the film and it’s possible “breakout” status. “I expected them to turn it into a full-on action comedy with some actor that I hated,” creator Bryan Lee O’Malley tells the LA Times. “I didn’t even care. I was a starving artist, and I was like, ‘Please, just give me some money.'”
Starring Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, release date: August 13th 2010
Various sites are reposting an image from the Superhero Hype boards which looks suspiciously like a page out of this week’s Entertainment Weekly. It features Thor and Odin in full costume and well, okay, I’ll post it:

Brendon Connelly at Bleeding Cool here’s an interesting rumor concerning former Doctor Who Sylvester McCoy. He was the Seventh Doctor from 1987 to 1989, reprising his role for a charity special in 1993 and the infamous Fox TV Movie in 1996. And now, he might be Bilbo Baggins. “I got back in touch with Screenrush and they confirmed that this was something they were told directly by a friend of McCoy. Of course there’s always a chance this friend was telling a fib, or had somehow failed to make themselves perfectly clear, but … Peter Jackson is doing a world tour seeing actors for roles in the film right now, and he was recently in London. Nothing here is sounding too improbable. I say let’s roll with it for a while and see what the official response is,” writes Connelly. Here’s a fairly recent photo of the man:
He does have the look of a Baggins and even his costume in the Doctor Who TV Movie had a Baggins red waistcoat. Connelly does point out that McCoy is on the oldish side considering the story takes place a considerable amount of time before “The Lord of the Rings,” but suggests make-up and computer effects could de-age him. I just doubt MGM and Warner Bros would allow such an important part to go to a virtually unknown actor.
Release date: Midwinter’s Eve of Some year
GHOST RIDER 2: SPIRITS OF VENGENCE
Latino Review and various other sites report Nicholas Cage spilled the beans on “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and confirmed he’ll be setting his head on fire again for the film. Sadly, no footage of this reveal has appeared online as of press time.
Release date: TBA
According to IGN, the “Alien” films finally come to Blu-Ray this fall. It will include all the features of the previous DVD set, plus a few new features, including “Alien” screentests only referenced in the previous release. I, for one, am super-excited to finally have “Alien” on Blu.

THE WALKING DEAD
In case you missed it, here at CBR, we reported on the first cast photo appearing online. It’s pretty faithful and gives us an idea of how the show will look in color. Meanwhile, the official AMC blog has an interview with Episode 2 director Michelle MacLaren. She admits to not being an avid comic reader. “When AMC called about the project I immediately went out and got all the comics. I couldn’t put them down — I carried them everywhere I went. Graphic novels are such a visually creative world — it’s really interesting what they can do in one sketch. Now I’m hooked. I would love to find something else in this world to do,” she says.
Cue some sleepy time music and get me some Unisom, it’s the weekend. Seeing as next week is one of the busiest of the year, I’m taking it extra easy this weekend. About the only thing I want to do is see “Inception.” Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of Comic-Con week.
