The earliest recruits for Charles Xavier’s dream of peace for mutants via fighting and leather outfits are shaping up strongly as Fox is just around the corner from casting another two members of the teen mutant team at the heart of “X-Men: First Class.” This comes from the usually reputable rumormill that is Deadline Hollywood who report that actor Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Henry “Hank” McCoy -Â AKA The Beast -Â and that Caleb Landry Jones will be Sean “Banshee” Cassidy in the upcoming prequel feature from “Kick-Ass” director Matthew Vaughn.
Very much in the vein of Sony’s recent Spider-Man pick Andrew Garfield, Hoult is a British actor with a strong body of TV experience in the UK including a regular part in the comedy “Skins,” however the supposed Beast-to-be has also been breaking through in more traditional genre films of late including playing Eusebios in the recent “Clash of the Titans” remake as well as being cast for a part in the upcoming “Mad Max” continuation “Fury Road.” Presumably, this version of the young Beast will be the traditionally hairless, more ape-like hero as opposed to the blue-furred version played by Kelsey Grammar in “X-Men: The Last Stand.”
Jones is even more of an unknown than some of the other cast members, having appeared briefly in “No Country For Old Men” and in three episodes of NBC’s “Friday Night Lights.”
If Hoult and Jones become Beast and Banshee respectively, they will join the already confirmed ames McAvoy (Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto) and Alice Eve (Emma Frost) in the film which is being executive produced by longtime X-Men stewardess Lauren Shuler Donner and original “X-Men” director Bryan Singer who also wrote the outline for the script.
