Fox's X-Men franchise will return to Montreal for Apocalypse, which is expected to begin production in April. Director Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past filmed there last year.

According to Journal de Montreal, via CJAD, the production office will open next month, with set construction getting under way in December at Mel's Cité du Cinema, the studio complex that's been used by such films as Days of Future Past, Immortals, Punisher: War Zone, Whiteout and 300.

Singer is co-writing X-Men: Apocalypse with Simon Kinberg, Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris, and is expected to direct. Set in the 1980s, the sequel feature the cast from X-Men: First Class and Quicksilver, and may draw in Gambit, Nightcrawler and younger versions of some of the characters introduced in 2000's X-Men.

X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27, 2016.
