As if the long-planned opening of the 962-acre Shanghai Disney Resort on June 16 isn't excitement enough, LEGO has announced it will launch the world's largest LEGO store there, on the same day.

Measuring more than 10,700 square feet, the store will be located in Disneytown, the new shopping, dining and entertainment district just Disneyland. The flagship store will feature indoor and outdoor play areas, as well as large-scale LEGO models, including a replica of the Oriental Pearl Tower.

"It will be a testament to our confidence in the China market," Jacob Kragh, general manager of LEGO China, said during a recent call with investors. LEGO sales grew by 34 percent last year in China.

The Danish toy giant already has more than 20 stores in China, and will open a LEGOLand Discovery Center next month in Shanghai. It's also building a LEGO factory in Jiaxing, China, expected to be operational next year.

China's largest city, Shanghai is also home to flagship stores for Disney and Victoria's Secret.
