UPDATE 3/24/2016 11:30 AM PT: CBR News has confirmed with Comic-Con International that WonderCon will return to the Anaheim Convention Center in 2017.

Original story: WonderCon's time in downtown Los Angeles looks like it'll be short-lived. While this year's installment of the annual comics convention is set to take place in LA this Friday through Sunday, a new report from L.A. Biz reports that the show will once again head 30 miles south next year, with WonderCon 2017 returning to the Anaheim Convention Center. CBR has confirmed the report with Comic-Con International, the parent company of WonderCon.

According to the report, Los Angeles Convention Center General Manager Brad Gessner stated that the LA facility did not have the dates available that Comic-Con International, the parent company of WonderCon, was looking to book for the show. WonderCon moved from its original Bay Area home in 2012, with the previous four installments of the show taking place in Anaheim.

Yet even if WonderCon isn't long for LA, that may not mean the city and Comic-Con won't have a future together. As the article notes, officials in LA have "been aggressively courting" for Comic-Con's main show -- the massive annual Comic-Con International in San Diego -- to relocate to Los Angeles, with this year's WonderCon viewed by Gessner as something of a trial.

"They outgrew San Diego probably five years ago, and now they've just had to contain it," Gessner, who worked for the San Diego Convention Center for 14 years, said. "They can't sell any more tickets, and they can't do any more additional programming."

Currently, Comic-Con International is under contract to San Diego through 2018, though Gessner indicated he'll keep trying to bring Comic-Con to Los Angeles.

WonderCon 2016 takes place this Friday, March 25 through Sunday, March 27 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
