After acquiring the film rights to the video game franchise in February from Mojang (the Swedish developers of the game), WB had Jon Spaihts, the writer for “Doctor Strange," come up with the first draft. Currently, Fuchs is working with director Rob McElhenney on developing the latest script.

Previous to this, Fuchs wrote the script to 2015’s “Pan," and wrote a screenplay for the upcoming “Wonder Woman," although his draft was later scrapped by Patty Jenkins for another version by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns. He will also be working as a screenwriter for the upcoming “Lobo” film.

“Minecraft” is based on the 2009 smash hit video game, which allows players to create their own world using textured, 3D cubes. Players must also avoid nocturnal monsters as well as stave off hunger and injuries.

“Minecraft” is set to release on May 25, 2019.
