Over the course of Labor Day Weekend, Wonder Woman earned almost $450,000, bringing its domestic total to approximately $408.9 million. This latest total advances the movie past the gross of both The Hunger Games and Marvel's ensemble flick, making it the 21st-highest-grossing-movie of all time in North American theaters.

Wonder Woman is expected to pass Iron Man 3 in the next couple of days, making it the fifth-highest-grossing movie ever in North America, behind only The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. It'll also place the movie in the top 20 of the highest-grossing movies domestically, ever.

Speaking on the movie recently, director Patty Jenkins teased what's to come in the Wonder Woman sequel. “The greatest thing about making this movie was the fact that you’re really building to the Wonder Woman that we all love, but not until the end of the movie,” The Monster helmer said. “The most exciting thing about [the sequel] is literally seeing her loose in the world now, living those classic stories. Here’s Wonder Woman, and what can she do? It should be a totally different movie, but a grand and now full-blown Wonder Woman in the world.”

What does Jenkins think of the box office success? “It’s wonderful, it’s what you hope for,” Jenkins explained. “You work so hard on [films] for so long, everybody that makes them hopes for success in every way they can possibly get it. So it’s felt very lucky and incredible to get both.”

The director also revealed her thoughts on why Wonder Woman resonated with with audiences and critics alike. “It’s actually been interesting seeing peoples’ reactions to this,” Jenkins said. “Particularly women coming up and saying, ‘That action scene was made for me! I don’t even like action movies!’ There is something about this movie that felt like it was speaking to [women] more than they had seen before because of the point of view being slightly different. I think that has been remarkable.”
