While Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice featured a number of overt Christ-like references in relation to Henry Cavill's Superman, it was Wonder Woman that officially introduced the concept of gods into the DC Extended Universe. However, one god-like being that went largely under the radar for most fans was Eugene Brave Rock's Chief Napi, who's recruited by Steve Trevor to help with their mission.RELATED: Wonder Woman Crosses $300 Million StatesideEarlier this month, Indian Country Today's Vincent Schilling published his review of Wonder Woman, which not only put heavy emphasis on the Native American representation that Eugene Brave Rock brought to the film, but also pointed out a key piece of information that came to light during Diana and Chief's initial, non-subtitled exchange in the Blackfoot language:
What I didnât expect was to be overcome with emotion when Eugene Brave Rockâs character âChiefâ met Wonder Woman, who was spectacularly portrayed by Gal Gadot. Why? His first words to her were in Blackfoot. Even better, he introduced himself as Napi, the Blackfoot demi-god who is known as a trickster and a storyteller.
That potentialrevelation prompted io9's Beth Elderkin to seek confirmation from the actor himself on Twitter.
In Blackfoot mythology, Napi is said to have created the Earth using the mud from a turtle's mouth that was found on a river upon which he floated. Napi is also said to be a trickster, enlightening men and women by personifying the unpredictability of the natural world.

While Chief's status as a demigod may not have any impact on future DC Extended Universe films, it certainly adds another layer to Wonder Woman.
In theaters now, director Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot as Diana, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Danny Huston as General Erich Ludendorff, David Thewlis as Ares, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Elena Anaya as Doctor Poison and Lucy Davis as Etta Candy.
