Back in May, the yet-to-be-released Wonder Woman became the first film with a female lead to top Fandango's annual survey of most anticipated summer blockbusters. Now, after crushing nearly every major milestone in its path since its premiere, the Patty Jenkins-helmed superhero film can also add "boosting Warner Bros. to the top of the summer box office" to its extensive and impressive résumé.

According to Deadline, Wonder Woman's $409.4 million domestic box office haul make it not only the highest-grossing  film of the summer, but the second-highest of the entire year. That, combined with Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and New Line's Annabelle: Creation helped push Warner Bros. to $790M overall, securing the studio the number one spot in the overall summer box office.

Still, despite the success of both Wonder Woman and Warner Bros. as a whole, these numbers are a reflection of a less-than-stellar box office compared to last summer, in which WB took the silver medal with $872.6M. Fortunately for Warner Bros., this was only a 9% dip; other major studios suffered more significant suumer-to-summer slides, including Disney (-39%), Universal (-34%) and Paramount (-33%). And while some big names such as Sony, 20th Century Fox and Lionsgate all saw increases this year, they still ultimately fell short of the Wonder Woman-led Warner Bros.
