It’s one of the most memorable images in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. The eponymous heroine, played by Gal Gadot, must attend a social function, but danger is everywhere in this new, industrial world of men. Knowing that her mystical sword, Godkiller, could be the difference between life and death in a fight, Diana makes a decision: she’s going to take her sword to this fancy, aristocratic gathering. So, naturally, she stashes the blade in the back of her dress, the weapon lying sheathed right between her shoulder blades. It’s a symbol of empowerment and a reminder that, even though Wonder Woman might be navigating the crowds in a blue dress, she is still Wonder Woman and thus extremely dangerous. It seems natural, then, that fans of the series have been drawn to this image and sought to replicate it.RELATED: Life-Size Wonder Woman Statue Will Defend Your WorldThe results can be found on social media sites like Twitter and Instagram, where women from around the world have been taking pictures of themselves with swords tucked into the back of dresses. Diana is first introduced to the Godkiller blade while she is still on the island of Themyscira. Believing she must use the blade to kill a supernatural being responsible for igniting World War I, Diana sets out into the world of men with sword, shield and bracers. A similarly-named blade can be found in DC Comics lore, first appearing in DC Sneak Peek: Deathstroke. Forged by the god Hephaestus, the blade can change its weight and appearance based on the need of the wielder.

Currently screening in theaters, Wonder Woman is a production of DC Films directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Chris Pine as Captain Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Danny Huston as General Erich Ludendorff, David Thewlis as Ares, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Elena Anaya as Doctor Poison and Lucy Davis as Etta Candy.
