William Hurt (Damages, Bonnie & Clyde) has joined the cast of AMC's upcoming futuristic drama Humans, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series will be a co-production between the cable network and the United Kingdom's Channel 4. AMC got involved with the project after Xbox dropped out.

The eight-episode series is expected to air on AMC in 2015. Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley, the duo behind the U.K. drama Spooks, have written an English-language adaptation of Sweden's Real Humans. The series takes place in a parallel modern time where the new buzz gadget is a "synth" -- a robot servant. Humans will chronicle the chilling events that happen to one suburban family after they let a synch into their house.

Hurt will star as widower George Millican who has formed a father/son bond with his old synth, Odi. Katherine Parkinson, Tom Goodman-Hill, Gemma Chan, Neil Maskell, Will Tudor, Emily Berrington, Rebecca Front and Colin Morgan will also star.
