While Will Smith was maskless in the "Suicide Squad" group photo released previously on Sunday by writer/director David Ayer, the superstar actor quickly clarified via a post on Facebook later that day that his version of Deadshot will indeed have a strong resemblance to the DC Comics source material. In the photo, Smith sports a white mask with a high-tech eye enhancement; much like the long-running comic book version of Deadshot, originally introduced in 1950 and created by Bob Kane, David Vern Reed and Lew Schwartz.

DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns also shared the image via Twitter, writing, "And now... Will Smith in combat mode. Gotta have the mask."

Here's a side-by-side comparison of Smith as Deadshot and a 2010 "Secret Six" cover by Daniel LuVisi.

Written and directed by Ayer and starring an ensemble cast also including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as the Joker, "Suicide Squad" is scheduled for release on Aug. 5, 2016.
