When Spider-Man 2099 artist Will Sliney decided to propose to girlfriend Laura O'Callaghan last week, he went with what he knows: comics. But not just any comics.

Gathering friends and family on Sept. 11 for O'Callaghan's surprise birthday party, Sliney projected onto a large screen a series of heartwarming illustrations that recounted the story of their relationship, complete with rhyming text, from their first meeting to their vacations to an imagined future together, complete with kids.

It ended with, "So he plucked up his courage, and got down on one knee and said to the girl, 'Will you marry me'?" That's, of course, when Sliney did the same. "She was shocked and a bit overcome with emotion," he told The Huffington Post, "but she eventually said the all-important, 'Yes!'"

The artist, who lives with O'Callaghan, told the Irish Mirror that, "I was only able to do the drawings whenever she wasn't home. It was about a year, overall, to plan it out."

Sliney posted the entire series of illustrations on his blog, where he wrote, "There are so many people to thank for helping me set this up as this plan has been in the works for quite a while but right now I just want to thank Laura for saying Yes!" See the full comic there.
