With Gary Whitta exiting the Gareth Edwards-helmed Star Wars spinoff, who will replace the writer?

According to Slashfilm's unconfirmed report, Simon Kinberg will step in to finish the script. The move would make sense, considering the writer-producer is already working on Star Wars Rebels, one of the other spinoffs and serves as a consultant on the current film.

A mainstay in geek film, Kinberg has been involved in a variety of projects, from Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Sherlock Holmes to X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Fantastic Four.

Whitta announced Friday that was leaving the project because of other scriptwriting commitments, which include an adaptation of Mark Millar's Starlight.
