Disney is reportedly eyeing Ryan Gosling to star opposite Emma Watson in the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast.

According to The Tracking Board, the actor turned director is the studio's top choice to play the prince transformed into a beast by a beautiful enchantress as punishment for his arrogance.

Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) is directing from a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who not only wrote 2014's Hercules, but a variety of straight-to-video Disney sequels like Cinderella III: A Twist in Time and The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning.

Disney released the animated version of Beauty and the Beast in 1991 to huge success, garnering the very first Best Picture nomination for an animated feature. The live-action version will supposedly retain the original's musical elements.
