Sherlock Holmes is about to get a lot funnier. Sony Pictures has announced "Holmes and Watson," a comedic take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective starring Will Ferrell as Holmes and John C. Reilly as Watson. "Get Hard's" Etan Cohen will direct.

The stars have been looking to reconnect on a film, according to Deadline, having teamed up previously on modern cult classics "Stepbrothers" and "Talladega Nights." Sony originally intended to make the movie with Sacha Baron Cohen as Watson, but that version fell apart, allowing production to move forward with Reilly in the co-lead role.

There is no release date for "Holmes and Watson," but the film will go into production after Thanksgiving. The film arrives while the Sherlock Holmes brand is at peak popularity, with Doyle's classic detective novels being adapted into movies (starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law as Holmes and Watson), CBS' "Elementary" (with Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu) and video games at a regular clip.

Cohen's previous writing credits include "Men in Black 3," "Tropic Thunder" and "Idiocracy." He's also attached to direct the recently announced "Mandrake the Magician" film adaptation starring Sacha Baron Cohen.
