DC Comics has announced a revival of its WildStorm imprint, under the direction of curator Warren Ellis (via ComicBook.com).

A veteran of WildStorm, Ellis is a revered comics scribe known for his work on "The Authority," "Planetary" and "Global Frequency," among other critically-acclaimed projects. Ellis will write the core WildStorm title, while serving as curator on the other books -- a similar model to DC's Young Animal imprint, currently under the direction of Gerard Way.

Set to debut in mid-February 2017, the WildStorm relaunch will "reset" the imprint's established universe and introduce new versions of characters like Grifter, Voodoo, The Engineer and Jenny Sparks.

Titles launching as part of the new WildStorm imprint include: "The Wild Storm," "Michael Cray," "WildC.A.T.S." and "Zealot." Apart from Ellis writing "The Wild Storm," alongside Jon Davis-Hunt ("Clean Room") on art duties, no other creative teams have been announced.

"After long reflection, I couldn't turn down the invitation to renovate the house that Jim Lee built, and refit its unique combination of cosmic paranoia and paramilitary conspiracy for the post-political space madness of the twenty-teens,” Ellis said of the relaunch. “Looking back to look forward."

Said DC Comics co-publisher -- and WildStorm co-founder -- Jim Lee, "There are precious few visionaries in our business and fewer still like Warren who can elevate mythos with both stylistic panache and idiosyncratic spectacle. His work at WildStorm remains the tone which best defines and reflects the WildStorm Universe," adding, "I know I speak for WildStorm fans the world over when I say I can’t wait to see what Warren and Jon have in store for fans in February!"

Spinning out of the San Diego-based Homage Studios, WildStorm originally launched in 1992 as Jim Lee, Brandon Choi and Whilce Portacio's studio as part of the newly formed Image Comics. Eventually splitting off from Image, WildStorm served as its own entity, until it was bought up by DC Comics in the late '90s. While DC continued to publish WildStorm comics as its own separate imprint, the line was inevitably cancelled upon the launch of The New 52. Replaced by DC's "Edge" line, which included a new "Stormwatch" title, in addition to "Grifter" and "Voodoo," the line slowly fizzled, leaving a big, empty, WildStorm-shaped hole at DC. While there have been rumors and teases about a "WildC.A.T.S." relaunch for years, plans hadn't materialized until now.

DC also released a batch of new character designs by Davis-Hunt, which you can check out below:
