Forget that X-Men: First Class/Farmers Insurance crossover -- this improbable TV spot for the Dunkin' Donuts Captain America-themed Coolatta drink may just be the best movie marketing tie-in ever. Okay, maybe not ever, but I can't think of a better one off the top of my head.

What does Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger have to do with cherry-flavored frozen beverages? Nothing, I'm sure, unless they were included in soldiers' C-rations alongside cigarettes and instant coffee during World War II. But the commercial stars a dog running amok at a construction site, and a Coolatta-swilling worker transformed into a likeness of the Sentinel of Liberty in an over-the-top sequence reminiscent of a Pepe Le Pew cartoon. So I'm not going to dwell on the question.

Directed by Joe Johnston, Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Stanley Tucci, Richard Armitage, Natalie Dormer, Dominic Cooper, Neal McDonough and Samuel L. Jackson. It opens on July 22.

Captain America: The First Avenger will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).
