Each day in June you'll get an entry showing you the first appearance of seemingly minor characters, phrases, objects or events that later became notable parts of comic book lore. Not major stuff like "the first appearance of Superman," but rather, "the first time someone said, 'Avengers Assemble!'" or "the first appearance of Batman's giant penny" or "the first appearance of Alfred Pennyworth" or "the first time Spider-Man's face was shown half-Spidey/half-Peter." Stuff like that. Here is an archive of what I've featured so far.

Enjoy!

First Green Arrow Boxing Glove Arrow

Green Arrow had been around for sometime before his boxing glove arrow debuted in 1947's Adventure Comics #118...

First Time Hulk Referred to "Puny Humans"

Amazingly enough, the Hulk's first "puny humans" bit was in the very first issue of the Incredible Hulk, from 1962!

Reader Bill K. suggested I find this one out.

First Appearance of Pete Ross

I was quite surprised to learn that Pete Ross did not make his debut until 1961 and the 86th issue of Superboy!!

By the way, if you want a truly goofy Silver Age story, "The Boy Who Betrayed Clark Kent" is definitely it - a total farce of a comic book (and I mean that in the good sense of the word "farce").
