During the Legendary Entertainment/Warner Bros. Pictures panel at WonderCon, director Guillermo del Toro took a break from discussingthe upcoming "Pacific Rim" to shed some new light on his percolating Justice League Dark film titled "Dark Universe."

The film's lead character is one who's already made the leap to the big screen once before, to the dismay of longtime fans. "[John Constantine] is basically trying to recruit these guys," del Toro told the audience. "On Etrigan, I'm using Jason Blood in the time of Merlin. We find out at the top that they each have a mystery to solve. Swamp Thing is at peace with who he is, but Deadman needs to figure out who shot him. It's all woven in. Growing up, my two favorite characters were Etrigan and Swamp Thing, so I'm in heaven."

del Toro and Warner Bros. have been talking about the project since before the success of Marvel Studios' "The Avengers." "They were galvanized to make their universe cohesive," the director said earlier this year, adding that he thinks studio executives are confident with what they have in Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" and are now ready to add to their superhero universe.
