By the time the live-action Jetsons movie actually makes it to the big screen, we might be heading to the theater in flying cars. The film has been in the works for a decade or so, but Variety reports it might be a step closer now that Warner Bros. has hired new writers Van Robichaux and Evan Susser. The pair created the Funny Or Die series What's Going On? with Mike Mitchell with Jack Allison.

Created by Hanna-Barbera as a flip side to The Flinstones, The Jetsons debuted in primetime on ABC in 1962. The series aired until 1963 and then reappeared from 1985 to 1987 in syndication when new episodes were created to add to the original 24. The show followed the Jetson family -- father George, mother Jane, daughter Judy, son Elroy, mumbling dog Astro and robot maid Rosie -- as they operated in their retro-future lives filled with moving floors, flying cars and video phones.
