WB Debuts New Superman/General Zod Clip from “Man of Steel”

With just a week until the heavily promoted premiere of “Man of Steel,” Warner Bros. has released the third and fourth clips from director Zack Snyder’s Superman franchise reboot.

The first, which arrived Thursday as part of HuffPost Live’s interview with “Law & Order: SVU” alum Christopher Meloni, depicts a decidedly uneven standoff between the actor’s Colonel Hardy and Antje Traue’s Kryptonian Faora — one that, luckily for the military man, is interrupted by the timely arrival of Superman (it can be viewed at the 1:12 mark below).

However, the best clip to date was introduced last night by “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill during his appearance on NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” As action-packed as the film’s final trailer is, this scene tops it in terms of violence, as an enraged Superman teaches General Zod (Michael Shannon) not to threaten Ma Kent by punching him repeatedly in the face while the two rocket through Smallville, leaving destruction in their wake. Of course, it turns out that Kal-El is doing more than merely venting his anger. Watch it below, beginning at 3:17.

Opening June 14, “Man of Steel” also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick, Michael Kelly as Steve Lombard and Richard Schiff as Dr. Emil Hamilton.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.
