If this tense new trailer won’t sell you on AMC’s new crime drama The Killing, I’m afraid that nothing will. It masterfully, and without the bells and whistles of, say, the CSI franchise, lays down the basis for an old-fashioned murder mystery: a missing girl, distraught parents, overworked detectives, an ambitious politician, and layer upon layer of lies.
An adaptation of the Danish miniseries Forbrydelsen, The Killing ties together three distinct stories centered around the homicide of a young girl, Rosie Larsen: the detectives assigned to the case, the victim’s parents and the city’s politicians. As the series unfolds — each of the first season’s 13 episodes represents a day – it becomes clear there are no accidents, that everyone has secrets, and that everything is connected.
The series stars Mireille Enos (Big Love) as Sarah Linden, the lead homicide detective assigned to the investigation; Billy Campbell (Once and Again) as Darren Richmond, Seattle’s city council president who’s now running for mayor; Joel Kinnaman (Snabba Cash) as Stephen Holder, a former narcotics officer who joins the homicide division in the investigation to find Rosie’s killer; Michelle Forbes (True Blood) as Rosie’s mother Mitch Larsen; and Brent Sexton (W., In the Valley of Elah) as Rosie’s father Stan Larsen.
The Killing premieres April 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.
