Although I was aware of the upcoming 3D adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ The Three Musketeers, primarily because of its eclectic cast — including Milla Jovovich, Ray Stevenson, Christoph Waltz, Orlando Bloom and a long-haired Logan Lerman — I guess I didn’t realize until today it was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. That’s when Apple premiered the trailer, which has Anderson’s fingerprints all over it.
If you’re a fan of Anderson’s other films — Resident Evil, Alien vs. Predator, etc. — this may be the movie for you. If you’re a fan of the classic Three Musketeers, you may want to back away slowly. Judging from this trailer, Anderson’s version is a steampunkish mash-up of Resident Evil (go figure!), The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and, I don’t know, Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. Come to think of it, it reminds me a lot of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen … which probably isn’t a good sign.
In any case, you can watch the trailer below, or visit Apple to view it in high definition. The Three Musketeers opens in 3D on Oct. 14.
