Before landing roles in big-budget blockbusters like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "X-Men: Apocalypse," Oscar Isaac garnered attention for his work on films like "Inside Llewyn Davis" and "Ex Machina." He returns to the independent arena in "Mojave," a crime thriller written and directed by "The Departed" screenwriter William Monahan.

"Entertainment Tonight" has debuted the first trailer for the film, which stars Garrett Hedlund ("Tron: Legacy," "Pan") as a near-suicidal artist who encounters a psychotic loner (Isaac) in the desert, and nearly kills him. Nearly is the operative word here, as the loner reemerges to exact his revenge.

Available beginning Thursday to DirecTV subscribers, "Mojave" will open Jan. 6 in select theaters.
