UPDATE 1/08/2012 8:25 AM PT: Game Informer has posted an announcement video that contains some footage of the game in progress. Thanks to CBR Forum member Derek Metaltron for the heads up!

Warner Bros. Interactive and developer TT Games are about to give the Marvel Universe the LEGO treatment -- "LEGO Marvel Super Heroes" has just been announced with a Fall 2013 release date for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PC, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS. According to the game's official press release, "LEGO Marvel Super Heroes" has an original storyline where Nick Fury recruits Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Spider-Man, Wolverine and other Marvel heroes to save the Earth against Loki, Galactus and more.

"Fans of both LEGO and Marvel have wanted this game for years, and we're addressing that demand with more Marvel Universe characters than ever in a console game," said Marvel Entertainment Vice President of Games Production TQ Jefferson via press release. "If you're a fan of Spider-Man, the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy or scores of other Marvel characters, this is the game for you."

The press release states more than 100 characters are unlockable in the game across the Marvel Universe and specifically cites Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, the Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Deadpool, Loki and Galactus.

Although a Marvel LEGO game isn't entirely unexpected -- TT Games has developed LEGO games for every major LEGO license including "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones," "Lord of the Rings" and the DC Universe -- it's certainly a surprise to see DC parent company Warner Bros. teaming up with Marvel for a product. Warner Interactive and TT Games' "LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes" introduced an open world and voice acting to the LEGO franchise. While further details about "LEGO Marvel Super Heroes" have yet to be revealed, it's likely fans will get a taste of what gameplay will be like in the developer's Wii U exclusive LEGO title "LEGO City Underground" later this year.

"LEGO Marvel Super Heroes" hits stores Fall 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PC, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS.
