‘Warcraft’ Will Have Nearly Two Years of Post-Production

Warcraft, director Duncan Jones’ upcoming adaptation of the Blizzard video game series, has been in production for quite some time now — and it will be for quite a bit longer.

Speaking with Crave Online, Legendary Pictures’ Thomas Tull explained that shooting on Warcraft will wrap soon, but there will be nears two years of post-production following the end of principal photography.

“There are some sequences and some things that Duncan Jones has done that are truly on the cutting edge,” he said. “You want to have plenty of time to make sure that we dial those in. So by the time they get home and set up, it’ll be a little less than two years. It’ll be about 20 months but we really want to take our time and get this right because the technology that’s employed really is some next generation stuff.”

That explains why Warcraft won’t hit theaters until March 11, 2016, even though filming is close to complete. However, Tull added that the release date also reflects the onslaught of big-budget blockbusters coming up in 2015 — films like The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: Episode VII.

“As you may have noticed, these next two years, there’s pretty big titles coming out,” he said. “We wanted to make sure that we got that right.”
