This past week's episode of "The Walking Dead" took us into the lion's den as Carl Grimes got an unscheduled tour of the Saviors' HQ courtesy of his failed assassination target, Negan. During the look-around, the show included a variation of one of its iconic (eye-conic?) scenes in which the bat-wielding baddie makes the younger Grimes remove his bandages to reveal his empty eye socket, the result of a gunshot wound from a little while back. The results were, surprise surprise, pretty damn gross, not to mention hard to watch as Negan clearly relished in Carl's discomfort. To document the occasion, actor Chandler Riggs posted a few photos on Twitter detailing the show's makeup department experimenting with different socket-shading effects to get that perfect "Ewwwww" effect. Check out the images below, hopefully on an empty stomach.

In an attempt to find a silver lining here, it is a pretty impressive job done by the special effects team. Now that we're done gawking, maybe Carl can go ahead and bandage that up again...

"The Walking Dead" stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Melissa McBride as Carol Peleteir, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Green, Danai Gurira as Michonne and more. The drama will shamble into its mid-season finale this Sunday at 9ET/PT on AMC.
