Already breaking cable records here in the U.S., it appears as though AMC’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard’s Image series “The Walking Dead” has made a splash overseas, leading to an official renewal for a second season from the network.
With its 90-minute pilot being carried across the globe by Fox International Channels, the numbers for the “Days Gone By” debut have been high. TV By The Numbers has the official release citing hundreds of thousands of viewers across Europe and major market shares in Asia and Latin America. “In just a few months, FIC and AMC have demonstrated the effects of a truly global collaboration resulting in the biggest global launch in TV’s history,” Fox International Channels CEO and President David Haslingden said in the release. “The strong performance results and numbers we are seeing this week, demonstrate the strong appeal of this high quality drama, as well as, the tremendous marketing efforts of our teams worldwide.”
To top that performance off, AMC announced a full 13-episode pick up for the Andrew Lincoln-starring drama for next season (the current season is a shorter, six-episode run), as confirmed on The Hollywood Reporter.
