Mark Waid and Peter Krause's BOOM! Studios comics series "Irredeemable" will be adapted to film by Fox with "Ant-Man" screenwriter Adam McKay as director. Deadline reports that "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" director Tommy Wirkola is also attached to write.

The comic series follows a superhero team called the Paradigm after Plutonian -- the world's greatest superhero -- turns on the citizens of Earth and begins slaughtering them. As they try to put an end to Plutonian's reign of terror, the Paradigm struggles with their own feelings of betrayal and hopelessness. In a desperate attempt to stop Plutonian, they turn to a famous super villain for help.

Waid co-created the series with Krause in April 2009 and it ran for 37 issues, concluding its run in May 2012 and inspiring a spin-off titled "Incorruptible." Artist Diego Baretto also contributed to the series.

BOOM! Studios' Ross Richie and Stephen Christy will produce the film alongside McKay, Gary Sanchez and Kevin Messick.
