When news broke that actor Vin Diesel ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "Fast 7,") would be returning to play Xander Cage for the third installment of the "xXx" franchise, many wondered when the film would be released. Would it be a summer blockbuster or a winter film?

Paramount announced today via Variety that "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage" would arrive on January 17, 2017, just under a year from now. The film features the return of Xander Cage, who has come out of retirement to track down a deadly weapon known as Pandora's Box.

While Vin Diesel portrayed Xander Cage in the first film, Ice Cube replaced him in the sequel. Diesel is back for film number three, along with "Vampire Diaries" actress Nina Dobrev, legendary actor Samuel L. Jackson ("Star Wars: Episodes I-III", "Kingsman Secret Service,") UFC star Conor McGregor, and the newly cast Donnie Yen, who recently replaced Jet Li as the film's main villain.

"xXx: The Return of Xander Cage" arrives in theaters January 20, 2017.
