Vin Diesel is a guy you should always root for. It’s not that he’s one of our greatest actors, or that he’s working to save the world, or anything like that. Those things might be true, but they’re besides the point. You should root for Diesel because he likes himself a good passion project. Even the ones that fall flat, they’ve got a certain charm to them largely because of his presence. He’s excited to be there. The feeling is palpable.
Okay … maybe not in the case of The Pacifier.
The point is, he’s got this magnetic presence that keeps me following his work no matter what it may be. Because every time there’s a gem, man does it shine. For Diesel’s next trick, he’s partnering with Fox to produce a web series that explores the lives of bar bouncers, Variety reports. That’s where the actor came from before he got his big break in Saving Private Ryan.
The series, called The Ropes, will consist of 18 seven-minute episodes, the first of which Diesel wrote himself. He will also appear throughout the series, though the cast will primarily be made up of largely unknown actors. It’s interesting that Diesel isn’t pitching this for television, but not terribly surprising. He’s been ahead of the game in a lot of ways, particularly with his transmedia development-oriented Tigon Studios. There’s no word on when we might see this web series, but Diesel will be back soon enough in Fast Five, which hits theaters in April.
