Vin Diesel has revealed the title of the long-awaited "xXx" sequel -- it's "Xander Returns" -- in a Facebook post that fans recent speculation he may want to direct Universal's "Fast 8" himself.

The Hollywood Reporter first broached the possibility last week in an article that delved into difficulties the studio is facing in finding a director for 2017's "Fast 8" following the departure of James Wan. Now it's apparently Diesel's mother broaching the subject.

"I will share something crazy that my mother said six months ago after the studio had me announce the date for 8 to the world," the action star wrote. "'Either you direct 8 yourself... or don’t do it.” Some of you vinbook pioneers are all too familiar with my mother’s wisdom, as I have posted her sayings in the past on Our page… but I wrote it off as just a mother’s love and belief in me, though she has seen first hand what I've done to make these movies defy expectations and become increasingly successful, even when the studio thought I was crazy... haha."

While that simply may be Diesel being playful with fans, it's already being viewed by some as part of a larger strategy. Picking up on THR's report, Deadline contends there already have been disagreements between Diesel and the studio about the final "Fast and the Furious" trilogy. The actor, who also serves as an executive producer of hit franchise, is said to want "The Fast and the Furious" director Rob Cohen to return, but Deadline's sources assert that it won't happen.

The website floats Ericson Core, cinematographer of "The Fast and the Furious," or Louis Leterrier, director of "The Incredible Hulk" as possible contenders for the gig.

It is no secret that my good friend Justin and I have been very intensely discussing the trilogy, as we have dreamed it...Posted by Vin Diesel on Wednesday, September 30, 2015
