Disney+'s upcoming The Mandalorian is set to become the first ongoing, live-action television series set in the Star Wars universe, which is quite a feat considering just how popular the sci-fi franchise is. Star Wars has made its way into pretty much every other medium. However, there's a lot you might not know about The Mandalorian going into the upcoming show. Don't worry, though, we've got you covered with a new video.

Obviously the most important questions are the who, what, where and when of The Mandalorian. The show will take place five years after Return of the Jedi in a place beyond the reach of the New Republic, so the Death Star II would have already been destroyed and the Empire will have fallen. The main character is a Mandalorian, who are a race of the most feared warriors in the galaxy. They often work as bounty hunters or mercenaries, and they've got a pretty deep connection to the greater Star Wars universe and lore. The group nearly brought down the whole Republic during the Mandalorian Wars, and they had a pretty bitter relationship with the Jedi due to their part in defeating them. The Mandalorians do eventually make peace with the Republic, though not everyone follows suit.

There's also a lot of connections between the Mandalorians and Clone Wars and Rebels, the animated series based in the Star Wars universe, so for those looking for more information might end up wanting to check those series out, as they'll certainly help to clarify the greater backstory of the Mandalorians.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte. The series debuts Nov. 12 on Disney+, the same date as the streaming service's official launch.
